Compared to the previous game, firearms play a much larger role in Death Stranding 2 and you will get access to them very early on. The unusual ammo replenishment system also makes a return. On this page of the guide we have described how to replenish ammo and increase its amount.
How to replenish ammo?
You can start using firearms from the very beginning of Death Stranding 2. After completing the prologue, Sam will be automatically equipped with a multipurpose assault rifle (knocks out people, hurts BTs) and a taser gun (knocks out people). Each gun, however, has limited ammo, which cannot be refilled mid-battle. Unlike most shooters, picking up a weapon identical to yours does not replenish ammo. If you run out of bullets during a fight, your only options are melee combat, hitting enemies with cargo, or picking up weapons off defeated enemies.
The only way to replenish your weapon's ammo is to rest in a private room. This will automatically fully refill all guns for free. Resting will not repair a damaged or worn-out weapon though - a worn-out weapon will eventually need to be replaced with a new one.
How to carry more ammo?
There are two ways to increase the amount of ammo you can carry. One of them is a backpack attachment - the spare ammo container. Each container will slightly increase the amount of ammo for all weapons you carry. The extra ammo weighs nothing, so this is definitely the most convenient method. All backpack upgrades take up space though, which you will run out of sooner or later - you will then have to decide which upgrades are worth the limited space.
The other option is to take several weapons with you. This is especially useful during boss fights, where exploration tools are typically not needed. If you leave them at your base, you'll have more space to carry a larger arsenal.
