Death Stranding 2: What if you choose I won't do it at the beginning of the game?
At the very beginning of Death Stranding 2 you will be confronted with a seemingly important decision, and Sam will have the opportunity to refuse to go on a new adventure. This page of the guide explains what will happen if you choose I won't do it and refuse Fragile's help.
Last update:
Death Stranding 2 introduces a simple dialogue system, during which Sam will have the opportunity to ask the interlocutor for specific details regarding the topics mentioned in the conversation. One of the first dialogue options, however, seems to be an important decision - when talking to Fragile after completing the first assignment, Sam can refuse to help her connect Mexico with the chiral network. On this guide page, we explain what happens if you choose the "I won't do it" option and thus refuse to help Fragile.
What is the decision about?
You will be faced with this choice in the first hour of the game, during the prologue. Immediately after completing the first order, i.e. when you return to Sam's shelter, you'll have to watch a long cut-scene. During it, you will be visited by Fragile, known from the first game, who will offer Sam a new assignment - connecting Mexico to the chiral network. If you agree, the game will continue. However, using all other dialogue options will unlock a new dialogue option - you can say "I won't do it" and refuse to help Fragile.
What if you refuse to help Fragile?
Selecting "I won't do it" suddenly resets the entire cut-scene. You go back to Sam and Lou's daily routine, but then the camera zooms in on a new photo on the fridge, showing Sam and Fragile talking. You will then revisit the decision and be able to refuse again.
If you refuse again, the sequence will repeat. You will watch the beginning of the cut-scene once again - but this time the game will take you back to the desert, i.e. to the very beginning of the game. After a while Sam will panic and force the game to go back to the point of making the decision. This time the option to refuse will disappear - you will only be able to agree. This is the earliest sign notifying you that Death Stranding 2's story is completely linear and contains no important decisions.
