You'll encounter the first boss fight in Death Stranding 2 during the main order No. 6. You will face off against a giant BT attacking a geophysical research laboratory. On this page of the guide we have described how to prepare for the fight and how to defeat the boss.

How to prepare for the battle with the giant BT?

Before fighting the giant BT, you will be able to craft some combat gear. The boss is tough and you will need a lot of ammo to defeat it. Feel free to get rid of almost all of your equipment, as the fight takes place right next to the laboratory - you only need an assault rifle, blood grenades and blood bags to heal. Before the battle, equip yourself with:

  1. Three assault rifles,
  2. Four sets of blood grenades (twenty grenades in total),
  3. At least two blood bags.

The fight takes place in an arena covered in deep tar, which makes movement difficult. While there are additional weapons in the arena, getting to them can be a challenge, so it's best to bring an extra weapon with you so you don't run out of ammo.

How to defeat the giant BT?

The key to fighting the giant BT is to keep a good distance from it. The boss will try to get close to you or pull you in with its attacks. When it gets close enough, it will prepare to devour you - it will open its mouth and hover above you for a moment before striking. Being devoured means an immediate game over - if you find yourself in a tough situation, run to the side to avoid your opponent's jaws. Occasionally, the boss can also perform a combo of two sweeping melee swings - run backwards to get away from it.

Most of the boss's ranged attacks can be avoided by constantly walking sideways around the edges of the arena. This applies to both tentacle strikes and spitting tar in a straight line. If necessary, dodge (L2 + X).

Some of the boss' attacks have it opening its mouth. These include spitting tar and sucking it in to draw you closer. When this happens, the boss's mouth glows gold or orange. This means you can throw a blood grenade into its mouth. If you hit it, you will briefly stun and knock down the BT. You can then freely move back while shooting it with your rifle.

The enemy's most dangerous attack is the rubble throw. It throws a huge amount of rubble and destroyed vehicles in a wide line. The safest way to avoid this attack is to hide behind one of the large brown rocks on the edge of the arena.

Every once in a while the boss will sink into the tar and resurface somewhere else. If it sinks into the tar only halfway, it means it is about to try to pierce you with a barbed tentacle. Wait for the tentacle to emerge and dodge to the side. After the attack, the tentacle will get stuck in the ground - shoot it to deal additional damage.

Keep circling the arena, shooting the boss whenever you can, throwing grenades (but remember to save a few for throwing at its mouth), and eventually you'll defeat the BT. After the fight, collect the dropped chiral crystals and return to the laboratory to complete the order.
