The Inventor resides in an optional outpost on an isolated island in Death Stranding 2. While you don't have to connect him to the chiral network to complete the game, the rewards for doing so are extremely useful and worth your attention. The island, however, lies in the middle of a huge, deep pool of tar, so getting there is problematic. On this page of the guide we've described how to get to the Inventor's island and what rewards you'll get for connecting him to the chiral network.

How to get to the Inventor's island?

The Inventor's island is located in the northwestern corner of Australia, north of F1 and close to the mine. It is separated from the rest of the continent by a very deep pool of tar. The island is too far from the shore to build a bridge. Occasionally, lost cargo intended for the Inventor may appear on the shore. One advantage of the Inventor's isolation is that increasing his rank doesn't require many likes. Almost all deliveries will be enough to increase his connection level by an additional star.

There are two ways to get to the Inventor's island. One is monotonous and time-consuming, but can be done immediately. The second one requires more effort and progress in the story, but it will create a very simple path to the inventor that you can use infinitely:

  1. The easiest way is to cross the tar pool on foot. While most of the tar is deep and Sam will sink in it, there are several shallower paths he can walk through that will take him all the way to the island. Scan the area with the odradek whenever you can - shallow paths will be marked in yellow, and deep tar in red. Follow the yellow path until you reach the island. The downside to this method is that each time you will have to make two monotonous, long treks through the tar to the island and back.
  1. A more demanding but also more convenient way becomes available once you complete main order No. 21. For completing it you will get the blueprint for the level 2 PCA, which you can build zip-lines with. Rebuild the monorail tracks leading from F2 to the mine north of F1 - they will pass over the Inventor's island. Take the monorail from the mine to F2 and jump off when the monorail passes over the Inventor's island. Build a zip-line at the very edge of the island. Since the track connectors also count as zip-lines, you can now freely get to and from the Inventor's Island by zip-line.

Rewards for connecting the Inventor to the chiral network

Once you have connected the Inventor to the Chiral Network, we recommend increasing his connection level to four stars as soon as possible by bringing him lost cargo or accepting Standard Orders that target him. He doesn't require many likes to max out, and the rewards he offers are incredibly useful:

  1. 1 star - Otter Hood. A hood that, when worn, increases Sam's mobility when he's being swept away by rivers. The least useful of the Inventor's rewards, but it can still come in handy on occasion.
  2. 2 stars - stun bombs. Grenades that explode in a large electrical pulse that knocks out enemies. One of the most useful thrown weapons, capable of stopping vehicles, shorting out mechs, and incapacitating multiple enemies at once.
  3. 3 stars - remotely detonated stun bombs. An upgrade to the previous reward that can now be detonated remotely. This allows you to set traps for enemies.
  4. 4 stars - Bola Stun Gun. An upgraded bola gun that fires electrified strands which bind BTs, damage mechs, and instantly knock out humans even if you don't get a headshot. It's completely silent and has a decent range when charged. Definitely one of the best stealth weapons.

Just like with the other facilities, earning five stars will only reward you with cosmetic rewards and a backpack patch.
