Capcom has finally ended support for the poorly rated online game Resident Evil RE:Verse and ultimately shut down its servers on June 29, 2025. The mentioned multiplayer launched in October 2022. It was sold separately and also included for free with RE: Village from 2021.

Many players probably won't shed a tear for RE:Verse. When you check the horror game stats on SteamDB, you can see that only 2115 players were in the game at the same time - of course, at the time of the release, because later there were only a few dozen people playing at once. They also didn't give the online game the best reviews - positive opinions constitute only 34% out of 4789 all published.

The studio announced its intention to stop supporting the game already in February 2025. At that time, the statement indicated that the series is at a "new turning point" and RE:Verse has fulfilled its mission.

Resident Evil Re:Verse was developed in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, and your overwhelming support for the game has far exceeded our expectations since the time of its release. Now that we've reached a new turning point for the series, we feel that Resident Evil Re:Verse has served its original, celebratory purpose admirably. We are incredibly grateful for your warm support for Resident Evil Re:Verse, and we deeply apologize for bringing you this disappointing news.

You could say that the numbers mentioned above contradict what Capcom says and does (console data wouldn't change much here). So let's call a spade a spade: the failure of the multiplayer "Resident" prompted the developers to focus on single player. This can be seen in the example of Resident Evil Requiem. According to the original concept, the game was supposed to be a multiplayer game, but ultimately, they decided on a single-player adventure. This game will be released on February 27, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
