Uncertainty around soft pity in Persona 5 X sparks player discussion
There are some uncertainties on the soft pity in P5X. If you are wondering what the term means and what is wrong with it, you have come to the right place.

Until recently, Persona series was not associated with the gacha genre, yet Persona 5 The Phantom X was released under such a business model. Acquiring characters or weapons by spending special currency is its important part. Gacha is always a lottery, although once you reach a certain threshold, getting a 5-star character from a given banner is guaranteed (it is called hard pity). However, many productions implement such a thing as soft pity, which increases your chances of getting the powerful character even before the guaranteed drop. How does it work in P5X?
Soft pity in P5X explained
If you are looking for answers to classroom questions, we have gather them in our guide.
Soft pity is a mechanic used in gacha games to increase your chances of getting a character or weapon from a banner you draw before reaching the hard pity (the point at which getting 5-star weapon or character from a given banner is guaranteed).
In P5X, hard pity is set at 80 for characters, while for weapons, it is 70. In the case of Soft pity, fans estimated it as follows: 71 for characters, and 61 for weapons (keep in mind that it is not the official data). This ratio is not very generous, as we have examples of other gacha productions, such as Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail; in these games, the community has discovered that the soft pity starts at 75, while the hard pity is 90.
With so many people who received the 5-star character only after reaching the hard pity, a large number of players think that soft pity in P5X is bugged, or the increase of chances of getting a 5-star character or weapon is so small that it doesn't matter if draw soft pity pulls.
However, the X user, Najox P5X shares information from one of the accounts belonging to IWplay Staff (SEA and TW publisher), confirming that soft pity is implemented in the game, in both Global and SEA versions, and is working. Perhaps the odds, which should increase at some point, really aren't high enough to get a character or weapon in soft pity. Of course, it may be simply a lack of luck in the lottery...
