The Crew for PC, PS4 and etc. is a car game with a fully open world, allowing the player to compete with other drivers in the area of the United States. The title was produced by French studio Ivory Tower, founded by former employees of Eden Games (responsible for the series of Test Drive Unlimited) with the support team developer, Ubisoft Reflections.

As befits a racing game, the players have the opportunity to assume the roles of drivers and try their hand at exciting race through the streets of American cities. The developers took care of a wide selection of cars available, many of which are licensed models of leading manufacturers. In total, the game offers more than a hundred carefully mapped cars in five diverse categories.

The developers’ ambition was, just like the promotional slogan said, to make sure that the players never raced alone, thus the emphasis on the presence of extensive social features, allowing a smooth transition between single and multiplayer modes. The Crew offers a bunch of modes for, inter alia, individual competition, or team competition with one’s friends or randomly chosen players. One of the key features of the game is an open world – the creators prepared nearly 5,000 square miles of land located in the United States, intended for exploration, filled with a variety of attractions: hundreds of missions, races, and tasks. The role-playing campaign offers about 10 hours of gameplay during which the players participate in history of six different characters.

Racing

Another expansion for the MMO racing game by Ivory Tower. It features a mini-campaign consisting of 12 missions, in which you can play as the other side — the policemen. The gameplay consists of dynamic and spectacular pursuits, and you can now use previously unavailable gadgets and abilities. The policemen can use electromagnetic charges and call for air support, while the other participants use flash grenades and infinite nitro. Moreover, The Crew: Calling All Units adds new vehicles, which you can mod to make them into police cars. Curiously, you can choose the police side in the base game too, but to drive a police vehicle, you need the expansion.

Racing

The first large expansion pack to The Crew, a car racing game developed by Ivory Tower. The title invites you to the so-called Summit - the gathering place for all racing enthusiasts. The game offers several different types of challenges and races (e.g. drag racing or Monster Truck competitions), and each of them is set in unique locations (e.g. the famous Bonneville Salt Flats or Yosemite Valley). The challenges that await you in Wild Run can be tackled with the cars that appeared in the base game, but there are lots of new vehicles as well, including high-performance motorcycles, incredibly fast dragsters, huge Monster Trucks, and drift cars. Moreover, some enhancements were made to the game’s visual side.

Take away its vast environment and The Crew is decidedly mediocre. But the enjoyable story and great sense of actually driving, whether alone or solo, means there's plenty of fun to be had all the same.

I wanted to like The Crew.

PlayStation LifeStyle: 7.5 / 10 by Paulmichael Contreras

If you've been clamoring for a new open-world racer the likes of which we haven't seen since Burnout Paradise, I am happy to report that The Crew fits the bill. A mixture of MMO and arcade-sim racing, you better ensure you have a steady Internet connection, or else face frustration. Hopefully a patch in the future will enable offline play, because to see all of the game's terrain will take a long time, perhaps even longer than Ubisoft will keep the game's servers online. All of the United States' major landmarks are here and wonderfully detailed. Vehicles' handling lay somewhere between arcade and simulation, though you can tweak this. Online play is very rewarding, but is over-emphasized at times. With such a massive world to explore, and an addictive leveling system, fans of this genre will be busy for months to come.
