Post-apocalyptic game throws new challenge at players, extending uneasy fight for survival in Project Zomboid

The next update to the „unstable” version of Project Zomboid brings quite a few improvements to the zombie spawning system, animations, and visual effects. Moreover, the possibility of extending the day has been introduced, which comes with additional chances, but also makes survival more difficult.

There's a new update for the "unstable" version of Project Zomboid (Build 42). After changes in the zombie spawning system and ragdoll physics, it's time for the audiovisual aspect of gameplay (and the realism of fishing). Of course, the standard game balance improvements and bug fixes weren't forgotten either.

New Zombie physic

  1. The effects of fire and smoke have been revised (the devs want to emphasize that these are mostly visual changes, and a redesign of the system itself is planned for the future).
  2. Significant improvements have appeared in the player's map view. Thanks to them, we will see, for example, street names on it, which should make it easier for us to navigate.
  3. An interesting feature is also the ImagePyramid option, which allows us to control the order of drawing and the colors of image pyramids.
  4. The patch also includes the ability to more precisely position objects.
  5. Additionally, the system of setting up barricades has changed. From now on, you can find them in the Build menu. The rules for their construction have also been changed.
  6. In Apocalypse mode, a 90-minute day selection option has appeared (instead of 60-minute ones). On one hand, we will have more time to gather resources, but on the other, survival may prove to be even more difficult than before.
  7. The fishing system, on the other hand, has been expanded, and now, to catch something, you will have to occasionally spin the reel.
  8. The zombies, in turn, have received new animations - don't be surprised if they start charging at you, spinning in place, or even swaying from side to side.
  9. Players can still sneak despite having injured feet (the devs note that it will be much slower).
  10. Besides that, the zombie spawning system was improved, which until now generated too many enemies in isolated places (and police stations).

The patch also fixes a lot of bigger and smaller bugs. The most important changes seem to be fixing the glitchy animations and improving the behavior of vehicles towards zombies, so they shouldn't get stuck on the car anymore. Both characters and opponents are supposed to move more smoothly, which will probably positively affect the fluidity of the gameplay.
