Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy is a remake of the adventure game of the same title released in 1999. The original was the first video game with Benoit Sokal as its lead designer. He is a Belgian cartoonist who later went down in history thanks to the famous Syberia series. The remake was made by the Microids company, which is also responsible for its original.

Plot

Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy allows us to play the role of a young reporter who decides to fulfill the last wish of a traveler named Alexander and sets off to the titular, extraordinary land in Latin America. Once he is there, the protagonist must confirm the existence of a large white bird that spends its entire life in flight - from birth to death. On the way, our protagonists meets other colorful characters, each with their own story and motives, and also learns more and more about the nature-dominated Amerzone.

Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy Review: A good remake, still stuck in the past

Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy might be the strangest gaming experience I’ve had in a long time. This is a remake of a 1999 first-person point-and-click adventure, and while it vastly improved the visuals of the entire experience, the controls are still stuck in the past.

Anything that truly challenges the player is anathema to modern design best practice. That’s why Amerzone is such a rare treat. It looks the part of a modern game, tells an exceptional story with a page-turning quality that only one of history’s finest comic book artists could achieve, and is willing to throw some genuine puzzles at the player. If you’ve got the resolve for it, then you’re in for a ride with this one.

Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy is a very good remake of an already well regarded puzzle game. While the story is a little predictable, it looks very good, the puzzles are well designed, and the environmental story telling is well constructed.

Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy is a fantastic adventure game and a great remake. What Microids has created here is a great tribute to Sokal's original work, producing something far more lavish and accomplished that manages to carry the charm and emotion that the storytelling deserves. A real good 'un!
