Release Date: June 5, 2025
A go-kart racing game, representing the best-selling series from Nintendo. Mario Kart World allows us to play as popular characters from the Mario Bros. universe. We participate in events for up to 24 racers. This installment introduces two new gameplay modes - Knockout Tour and Free Roam.
Mario Kart World is a go-kart racing game belonging to the best-selling series, started back in 1992. As was the case with all previous installments of the series, the company Nintendo, which oversees the brand, is behind the development.
In Mario Kart World we play as characters from the Mario Bros. universe and we participate in a crazy competition on the track.
The key to success in the game is not only mastering the skill-based driving model (thanks to which drifting, or taking turns in spectacular slides, is a daily routine) and tracks (which are full of shortcuts), but also collecting power-ups and efficiently using them.
The game offers us a variety of characters, among which we will find both heroes, as well as villains. The virtual garage contains cars and their variations, as well as motorcycles and motorboats.
We can play Mario Kart World alone or in multiplayer mode (via the Internet or on a split screen). The game allows for competition with up to 24 players, and two new modes have joined the list.
The first of them is the Knockout Tour, in which we race through tracks and checkpoints, trying at all costs to avoid being the last at a given checkpoint (which results in elimination from the fight for victory). The second gameplay option is Free Roam, which allows us to go off the tracks and explore maps with an open structure.
The graphic design of Mario Kart World was maintained in the cartoon style characteristic of the series.

June 2, 2025
June is dominated by ports for Switch 2, but there will also be room for other games. Among the new ones are: The Alters, Dune: Awakening, and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.
The Nintendo Switch 2 appears to have sold 5 million units, according to a now-removed post from Nintendo. This would easily set a record for a console launch.

Entertainium: 5 / 5 by Eduardo Rebouças
Mario Kart World is not only a great first-party launch game for the Switch 2, but it’s also one of the best entries in the franchise to date.
Gaming Instincts: 8.5 / 10 by Leonid Melikhov
To be fully transparent, I do believe this is a great game, and the direction it’s headed in is promising. Doubling the player count, introducing open-world design, adding more environmental interaction, showcasing new water tech, real-time weather, day and night cycles, and the introduction of new racing mechanics all point to a true generational leap over its predecessor. However, the open world just isn’t utilized to its fullest. It feels like something’s missing and there is not much to chase. Instead of rewarding players with shallow collectibles like stickers, there should’ve been deeper, more engaging activities with far better rewards like hidden secret characters or some crazy vehicle that has maxed out stats for doing everything that free-roam has to offer. The $80 price tag stings even more when you realize how much more could’ve been done with the foundations they’ve built.
Checkpoint Gaming: 9 / 10 by Luke Mitchell
Mario Kart World is incredibly easy to fall in love with, largely due to its solid injection of nostalgia and visual upgrades that help to justify the hardware upgrade. This is the best-looking and smoothest Mario Kart has ever felt, and Knockout Tour is sure to set the world on fire as the go-to game mode for this generation. I wish there was more to strive for in its Free Roam mode, but all of the other foundational parts that have made Mario Kart a success for so long are here, and better than ever. When playing with friends, it's still the undisputed king, making this a must-have title on your shiny new Switch 2 that will be enjoyed for years to come.
