J.K. Rowling isn't as involved in the Harry Potter series from HBO Max as fans might have expected. The author has clarified what she is doing
The author of the Harry Potter series has revealed how she is involved in the HBO Max show. It looks different than some fans may have assumed.

Work on the Harry Potter series from HBO Max is underway. The actors for many of the roles have already been chosen and even announced – we already know who will play the three young wizards whose adventures we will follow, as well as the Hogwarts professors, other students and a couple of adults. So we can say that the production is taking shape. And in addition to the cast, the scripts, at least part of them, are also ready.
And J.K. Rowling has announced that she has had time to read the first two episodes of the series, which she says are “so, so, so good.” But that's not all, because when asked if she wasn't involved in writing the scripts (and many assumed she would be working on them), she confessed that she doesn't write anything herself, but works closely with the screenwriters.
Q: So you are not doing the writing for this show?
J.K. Rowling: No, but I've worked closely with the extremely talented writers.
Fans assumed that J.K. Rowling might be involved in writing scripts for the Harry Potter series from HBO Max, since she was the screenwriter of the Fantastic Beasts films. This time, however, she is involved to a lesser extent, overseeing the work but not writing anything herself.
The showrunner and screenwriter of the HP series is Francesca Gardiner, who previously worked on His Dark Materials at HBO, Killing Eve at BBC America and The Rook at Starz. She and her team are the ones writing episodes for the HBO Max production.
Sets are being built, the crew is expected to enter them soon and start shooting the Harry Potter series.
