RimWorld Expansion Pack
Release Date: July 2025
An expansion for the sci-fi strategy from 2018. RimWorld: Odyssey DLC allows us to construct a gravitational ship and we can transform it into a mobile colony. It is capable of landing on planets and exploring the cosmos. Other new content includes animals, enemies, weapons and missions.
RimWorld: Odyssey is the fifth expansion (after RimWorld: Anomaly) to the strategy game titled RimWorld, released in 2018. The main objective of the game is to lead an extraterrestrial colony. The expansion was developed by the independent team Ludeon Studios, which created the base version of the game and oversees its development.
RimWorld: Odyssey introduces a wide range of new features.
We receive ancient maps and anonymous signals during the game. We are also visited by guests and they are the source of missions waiting to be completed. Received tasks provide an opportunity to hunt for the mythical alpha thrumbo, to loot mercenary crypts, abandoned orbital platforms and satellites, as well as to establish mines on asteroids.
The add-on also allows us to create our own gravity ship and embark on a journey around the planet. Thanks to it, we can move to any place on the globe, looking for treasures, food, fuel and other useful resources. Although we start modestly with a small unit, over time we accumulate gravity crystals that allow for the expansion of the ship and its gradual transformation into a real mobile colony.
With a ship, we can also go into space and explore cosmic debris (asteroids) and scrap (destroyed orbital platforms, wreckage of mechanoids whose defense is still active) in search of resources and remnants. However, for such expeditions, we must prepare adequately, equipping their unit with airtight walls, heaters, oxygen pumps and airlocks, and its crew - with vacuum suits.
The creators have given us access to the entire planet and this was an opportunity to introduce new biomes. Among them, we will find a glow forest illuminated by bioluminescent fungi and spores, scars that are post-apocalyptic remnants of cities, densely overgrown meadows allowing for farming and wind energy harvesting, glacial plains looking like prehistoric wastelands traversed by mastodons and saber-toothed cats, and lava fields being the most inhospitable of all new environments.
Additionally, the developers introduced a new system of landmarks. Cliffs, crevices, cracks and valleys allow for the digging of underground tunnels, islands, archipelagos, atolls, fjords and peninsulas are ideal places for establishing fishing villages, an abandoned colony can become our new base, while ancient structures are a source of valuable resources.
RimWorld: Odyssey also brings 40 new animals, among which we will find sparrows, saber-toothed cats, wolves, seals and otters, as well as porcupines and prairie dogs. Some species are able to boost the morale of colonists, while others perform excellently in the role of defenders or serve as... a good source of food. Interestingly, the DLC allows injecting consciousness catalysts even into the simplest creatures. There are also new fish that we can catch (like marlin or tuna).
And speaking of the defenders of the colonists - our characters have something to defend against, as they encounter a number of new enemies on their way. New types of hostiles include drones, ancient sentinels equipped with blunderbusses, and a cyclops-mechanoid shooting gamma rays, or finally a swarm of mechanoids and its queen. We can either destroy this last one or use it to achieve our own goals.
The colonists defend themselves against threats not only with the help of animals, but also by using new weapons, including a shotgun, a rifle with AI assistance, or a golden revolver.
RimWorld: Odyssey is a non-standalone expansion, so it requires the base version of RimWorld.
