The Alters: Where to find planetary samples?
Planetary samples are a rare and valuable resource from the game The Alters. From the guide you will learn where to look for planetary samples and the requirements for obtaining them, as well as the best way to spend planetary samples on new research.

How to obtain and use planetary samples in The Alters? In our guide, we focused on discussing one of the most valuable and rarest resources. We primarily described the process of extracting planetary samples from interal veins. You will also find out which research you should get using planetary samples and what exactly can be gained thanks to advanced technologies.
- How to find an interal vein?
- How to locate and destroy the core?
- When will the next interval veins appear?
- What is the use of planetary samples?
How to find an interal vein?
- You will learn about planetary samples for the first time while completing the main task Strange Phenomena - we described everything in more detail on the page How to avoid anomalies?.
- During the mentioned quest, you will discover the first interal vein and it will be marked on your map with a purple question mark.
How to locate and destroy the core?
- The task Strange Phenomena requires completing the research Interal Analysis Tool and building a Luminator in the workshop (20 metals, 20 rapidium). Fortunately, this is a one-time expense and the gadget will also come in handy later in the game.
- Return to the interval vein with the illuminator. Select it from the radial menu and use the gadget to illuminate the unusual anomaly. Do not interrupt this action until there is a small explosion of energy.
- Don't put away the illuminator yet. With the gadget equipped, you can see a trail made of vines and alien plants - follow this path visible thanks to the use of the illuminator.
- The trail always leads Jan to an interal vein core - the picture shows one of them.
- Use the illuminator again, this time on the core. The energy consumption of your suit will cause the core to explode and cause planetary samples to appear. It will always be just 1 unit.
- You will reach other planetary samples in the same way. You always need to find an interal vein (question mark on the map), illuminate it, follow the trail and destroy the core.
When will the next interval veins appear?
- If you don't see any other purple question marks on the area map, then at that moment you won't be able to collect more planetary samples.
- Continue the game, and at key moments you will receive a warning about the approaching Sun as well as the related changes and events. The change log may contain information about the appearance of a new interal vein (example in the picture).
- After displaying the map of the area, you should notice a new question mark (or question marks). You can also find new interal veins and interal vein cores on the maps in the next chapters.
What is the use of planetary samples?
- Planetary samples are used for advanced research projects that can unlock important upgrades, objects, or base rooms.
- You will recognize projects related to the described resource by the icon on the left of the technology's icon - we showed an example in the attached image.
After opening a specific project window, you will find out that planetary samples will be lost once the research begins. You will be able to choose another project of this type only after obtaining more of this resource.
The above limitation forces you to select the best advanced research. The two most important projects are:
- Radiation Repulsor - It unlocks the option to build rooms that increase the base's protection against radiation and reducing the use of radiation filters.
- Suit Upgrade - It will increase the suit's resistance to radiation and add 2 energy charges. You will also gain access to other related research, including those related to the suit and the illuminator.
