The Alters: How to use the Gravity Sensor on top of the canyon?
Placing a gravity sensor at the top of the canyon is part of the Great Anomaly quest from the game The Alters. The walkthrough explains how to create a gravity sensor, how to climb high walls and how to reach the top of the canyon.
Last update:
The gravity sensor is a unique device from act 2 of The Alters, which you must first place at the top of the canyon to investigate a great anomaly. Our guide describes all the required steps - building a gravity sensor, reaching the highest point of the canyon (hook upgrade required), activating the gadget to investigate the anomaly, setting up neutralizing towers, and using the gravity sensor in the final part of the second act.

How to build the Gravity Sensor?
- The Great Anomaly is the main obstacle in act 2. You must first approach it, and then discuss it with Jan Scientist.
- The idea of producing a Gravity Sensor in the workshop will be born, which will be used to investigate anomalies and determine how to neutralize them. This device requires 50x Metals and 20x Minerals.
How to climb high walls?
- By default, you cannot reach the ultimate location for the Gravity Sensor because act 2 features high climbing walls - they are marked with two arrows on the map and a standard Climbing Hook will not be enough here.
- You need to develop the newly unlocked research project: Hook Upgrade. It enables the climbing option and each high wall will require 3x Suit Energy. Make sure your suit is charged and stock up on batteries.
Where to go with the Gravity Sensor?
- After acquiring the device, two possible locations for placing it will appear on the area map - they will be marked as purple points with an X in the middle.
- You only need to reach one of these locations and you can choose any of them. On the way, you'll have to deal with Anomalies (avoid them or destroy them with the Luminator) and Energy Walls. You'll also climb high walls.
- In both locations, you will find a large round icon on the ground, which indicates the place intended for the Gravity Sensor.
How to place the Gravity Sensor?
- You need to select the Gravity Sensor from the drop-down menu and place it in a proper spot. The process is identical to creating Mining Outposts.
- The Gravity Sensor will be activated and will scan the Great Anomaly. As a result, you will receive another mission objective to consult the results with Jan Scientist.
How to use the gravity sensor at the end of act 2?
- Activating the gravity sensor is not your last interaction with this device. You need to continue The Great Anomaly main quest and build 2 neutralizing towers - each of them costs 160 metals and 160 minerals.
- You need to return to the same locations at the top of the canyon after making the neutralizing towers, and this time you will have to visit both places. Select towers in the building menu and place them at designated points.
- At the end of the second act, you will receive a new goal to use the gravity sensor to get rid of the great anomaly.
- You need to start by assigning a total of 4 alters to work on the neutralizing towers. This is done in the Assignments tab (image above).
Use a quantum computer if you're short on hands for work. 4 alters (excluding Jan) are the minimum requirement to complete the main mission.
- Go to the place where you previously built the gravity sensor. Interacting with it may display an error that alters have to be assigned to both towers and start their shifts.
- The solution is very simple - you have to wait until the alters' working hours and they cannot currently be in the Off Shift state. The alters start their duties at 9 AM. If they have already finished work for the day, then wait for the start of the next one.
- If you have correctly completed all the steps, the option to prepare for the next journey will become available. The great anomaly will be neutralized.
The game can additionally warn you about unfinished side quests and research related to the plot - they will be lost if you set off on the journey too early.
