“It's the right age.” Gary Oldman would love to play a key role in the Harry Potter series from HBO Max, but this one is already cast
Gary Oldman has expressed his desire to play one of the most important characters in the Harry Potter series, however, such an opportunity will not be given to him – the role is already cast in the HBO Max production.

Gary Oldman to Harry Potter fans is well known as Sirius Black. The actor played the legendary hero of the series, who is a fan favorite, in three films, and although he didn't stay on screens for too long, audiences still appreciated the actor in the role. Although Oldman calls his performance in the HP series films as “mediocre,” fans are of a completely different opinion, being impressed by his Sirius.
And they would probably also be impressed by Albus Dumbledore performed by the talented actor, who expressed his desire to play the role during an interview with Variety. Oldman stated that he is the right age to play the Hogwarts headmaster.
I would have fancied a go at Dumbledore... I'm getting up there now. It's the right age for Dumbledore.
Unfortunately, this role has already been cast in the Harry Potter series from HBO Max. Dumbledore is to be played by John Lithgow, which means that Oldman won't get a chance to play this character and for HP fans he will forever be just Sirius Black.
Besides, as Oldman himself noted, the creators probably wouldn't want to cast him in the series anyway, as he believes that “they're not going to go anywhere near people that were connected to the original.” And it's true, because the cast of the Harry Potter series does not include anyone who has previously appeared in the movies, and at this point eighteen roles have already been cast.
Actors are expected to begin work on the Harry Potter series this summer. Sets are already being built for the film, which they will soon enter as characters from the magical world. As for Gary Oldman, season 5 of Slow Horses starring him is scheduled to be released in September.
