Relic Entertainment studio is currently working on Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition, but instead of just waiting for this release, fans are hard at work developing mods for the original. This makes more sense since the remaster will be compatible with old modifications. The latest example of modder activity is the new version of the major Redux Mod project for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Soulstorm.
We have been waiting a long time for this update—the previous version was released 13 months ago. The new version, labeled 1.38, brings many new features.
- A new unit has been added to the mod— Primaris Psyker - a first custom unit made by and for the Redux Mod. It’s a secondary commander for the Imperial Guard, able to cast Psychic Maelstrom at her foes, force enemies to flee with Terrifying Visions and project a Telekine Dome to safeguard her Guardsmen associates. Space Marines have also received the Ironclad Dreadnought variant.
- All damages from weapons and special attacks have been increased by 15% to help hasten combat a bit more. Melee squads have had health roughly increased by 10% to help balance them better with this new change.
- 5 community maps have been reworked and redesigned into the mod which includes Black Fortress (8p), Streets of Magerion (8p), Sandstorm (2p), St. Mathias Bridge (4p) and Strovinivich River Front (8p). 17 vanilla maps have had extra background details added in and portraits reworked in HD with some maps being completely remade from scratch to better use the map space.
- Lobby screens for hosting games have been reworked into a cleaner design with better spatially aligned UI elements. Loading screens have also had map and player assets removed to better show the loading textures.
- Numerous gameplay balance changes have also been introduced to the mod.

For those who aren’t familiar with Redux Mod let us explain what makes it so special. The project serves as an unofficial remaster. It enhances textures, improves models and maps, and refreshes sound effects. The interface has also been modernized (including adjustments for 1920x1080 resolution and higher). Moreover, icons have been improved, squad sizes have been increased by 50%, and the maximum camera zoom-out distance has been expanded.
