Preparing a perfect daily schedule is the recipe for success in The Alters. On this page of the guide, you'll learn about the importance of daytime, evening, and nighttime in the game world. We've also prepared tips on how to split responsibilities between the main character and his Alters in order to manage the available time for work and rest well.

Beginning of the day

  1. Every in-game day starts at 7:00 AM - the exception is if you went to bed too late the previous day (more on this later).
  2. The game auto-saves at the start of each day - you can find more information and tips on managing save data on the FAQ page How to save the game?.

Activity during daytime hours

The things you should do first are:

  1. Checking the inventory - make sure especially that you have radiation filters and mush. Those items are used every day and you can easily run out of them.
  2. Sending Alters to work - you can use the Assigned Tasks tab for that. Try to pick duties related to the Alters skills to gain bonuses. If necessary, you can plan production in a separate tab. It is possible that the Alter will finish his task before the day ends. If that happens, you'll get a notification that the Alter is free. Try to immediately choose a new task for him or add more items to the production queue.
  3. Checking the base status - this is important, especially during or after a magnetic storm. Exclamation marks can indicate malfunctions. Send Jan the Technician to deal with those. While you're at it you should also check your repair kit supplies.

The general schedule for most days should look as follows:

  1. Jan should explore the planet, build Mining Outposts and pylons - unlocking Mining Outposts is your main priority during the first few days on a new map. This will allow you to easily extract specific resources. You should also remove obstacles, destroy anomalies (unique resource), and pick up any collectible you can find.
  2. Alters should work in their designated places all day - In case of some Alters (for example the Doctor or Scientist) it should be their permanent place of work. Send the rest to the most important tasks, for example to replenish resources that are running out.

Evening hours and sleep

  1. Usually, you should explore and work up to 8:00 PM. In the evening, you need to return to the base to avoid radiation and fatigue, which can reduce work efficiency.
  2. Use evenings primarily to talk and interact with the Alters - you can do that in the Social Room. You can also contact the Earth (if that option is currently available), plan some actions for the next day or add new items to production queues.
  3. Try to go to sleep before 11:00 PM. This is important, as doing so after 11:00 PM can make you oversleep the next day. This is because Jan and his Alters need 8 hours of sleep.

What events can affect the daily schedule?

  1. Magnetic storms, which we described in more detail on the page about avoiding radiation, can ruin your schedule.
  2. During the storm, you can't leave the base. This means you have to focus on performing tasks inside. You can use this time for production in the workshop, kitchen or refinery, or finishing ongoing repairs. During a magnetic storm, the working time can be extended to 12 hours, which will make dealing with all sorts of critical situations easier.
  1. Your schedule can also change because of the approaching sun and increasing radiation. For example, some days you may be forced to return to the base an hour earlier. The lack of time means you'll work less and extract less resources.
