He did it on the anniversary of Diablo 2, and that wasn't accident. PoE co-creator is longing for the old days
The father of the first Path of Exile has founded a new studio and is developing a yet unannounced RPG. A deep knowledge of Diablo 2 is required to make it.

In February, the Path of Exile community was hit with the sad news of Chris Wilson's departure from Grinding Gear Games studio. The dev was one of the founders of the company and the father of the success of the first installment of the series. For many years, he was also its face - he often announced new updates or appeared publicly at events.
However, last weekend Wilson surprised the players with an unexpected announcement. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Diablo 2, Wilson interviewed the series' creator, David Brevik, and revealed that he has started a new studio and is working on an unannounced project.
The creator of PoE is making a new RPG
According to Wilson's official website, he resigned from his job at GGG back in 2023. In the interview, he admitted that after leaving, he took a year off, during which he traveled a lot, among other things. After a while, he realized that he "wants to be creative again," but this time not as the boss of a 200-person company.
The most fun part of creating Path of Exile was jamming in the garage with Jonathan and Erik at the beginning.
So he started a new studio called Light Pattern and is working on a new game with a small team. Unfortunately, it is not yet known exactly what this project will be, but Wilson hinted that revealing this information on the anniversary of Diablo 2's release was not a coincidence.
Another clue is also the job advertisement for the position of Artistic Director, posted on the Light Pattern studio's website. Among the requirements mentioned were "appreciation for classic RPG games from the '90s and 2000s" and "deep knowledge of Diablo 2."
Everything indicates that Wilson is planning to make another hack'n'slash, which may potentially become a competitor for Path of Exile in the future. However, we will have to wait a bit longer for that, but fans of the genre already have something to look forward to.
