Harry Potter epilogue was the culmination of the entire series, allowing fans to find out how the characters' lives turned out many years after the Battle of Hogwarts. When the now-adult Harry, Ron and Hermione appeared on Platform 9 3/4 along with their children, they could also see their old friends.

And as it turns out, there may have been more people in that group. J.K. Rowling admitted that she had considered having Dudley Dursley present on the platform as well, along with his magical child. That's right, Dudley could have had a child who was a wizard or witch, however, the HP author eventually gave up on the idea. Why? She thought that no magic would have been able to handle Vernon's DNA.

A couple of people have told me that they hoped to see Dudley at King’s Cross in the Epilogue, accompanying a wizarding child. I must admit that it did occur to me to do that very thing, but a short period of reflection convinced me that any latent wizarding genes would never survive contact with Uncle Vernon’s DNA, so I didn’t do it.

Harry Potter fans are disappointed by the decision. They think this “lovely” idea would have been an interesting conclusion to the story of Dudley, who was raised by magic-hating parents and taught by them to do the same. Faced with having a child who is a wizard or witch, he could defy his parents' beliefs and accept Harry's world, making his story about change and acceptance.

It would have been really, really nice to see Dudley rise above his mother's jealousy and malice by happily sharing this moment with his cousin – Youre_On_Balon.

Could have been a great stand-alone story. Dudley comes to terms with a magical child, standing up to his parents and going to Harry for advice to be a good father to his child – blac_sheep90.

Would have been believable too since Harry's mom was also born from non-magical parents. Man, it would have been so great to hear Petunia's reaction when she found out she has a magical grand child – RnotSPECIALorUNIQUE.

I love this so much that it's now headcanon for me – chewbubbIegumkickass.

Unfortunately, such an idea didn’t come to fruition. And although HP fans weren’t able to see Dudley with a magical child, this doesn’t mean that the character didn’t undergo a change and didn’t open up to his cousin. As Rowling confessed, Dudley and Harry kept in touch for the rest of their lives, and even Harry, along with Ginny and their children, visited Dudley's family when they were in the area.
