“They tried to keep me away.” The author was forbidden to look at Tom Hardy when the movie based on his book was made
It's not always worth getting to know your heroes. The meeting with Tom Hardy didn’t go as the author of The Bikeriders would have wished.

Meetings with celebrities do not always look the way we imagine. They happen to disappoint, and something like that happened to Danny Lyon, author of The Bikeriders, the book on which one of the latest films with Tom Hardy is based. And the unfortunate encounter is precisely about the Mad Max star, who is known to avoid interaction on movie sets, as Patrick Stewart, who worked with him on Star Trek: Nemesis, has said in the past.
And apparently there's something about Tom Hardy being an inaccessible person on set, as Lyon's words suggest the same. The author of The Bikeriders told the story of how he came to the set wanting to meet Tom Hardy, but was told there that he couldn't even look at the actor. As a result, Lyon was told to hide behind a tree.
They tried to keep me away but I finally get there. It’s f***ing freezing. I just want to meet Tom Hardy.
He gets on set and they say, “You can’t look at him.” I said, “What do you mean? Why can’t I look at him?” They say, “Oh, he doesn’t like it.”
So they make me hide behind a tree and all this bulls**t.
It's also not that unheard of for actors to prefer that guests on set not talk to them between shots. Many of them remain “in character” during breaks, so they may step aside so that they are not disturbed.
Perhaps this was also the case with Hardy, which is why Lyon's meeting with him did not go as the author might have wanted.
