A tactical RPG distributed in a free-to-play model and featuring gacha mechanics. In Blue Archive we lead a group of schoolgirls into combat. They are guarding the peace in the city of Kivotos. We can learn more about the protagonists outside of combat, talking to them and completing their missions.
The South Korean company Nexon specializes in producing games distributed in a free-to-play model. This also includes a tactical RPG titled Blue Archive. It was initially only available in Japan, but its global premiere took place relatively quickly.
The game was developed by the MX Studio team and it takes us to the city-state of Kivotos and allows us to become Sensei. During the game, we lead a team of girls who are maintaining order in the metropolis and trying to find the missing chairwoman of the General Student Council.
The gameplay in Blue Archive is based on fighting battles, as well as managing students and their development.
The predominant role here is fighting opponents and we can lead a team of 6 students. While 4 of them are actively fighting, 2 are serving as support for their colleagues. The battles take place in real time, and our subordinates automatically move around the arenas shown in isometric view and attack enemies.
Our role involves selecting members of the unit (they are diversified in terms of preferred weapons, fighting style, and skills), as well as using their special abilities. The effectiveness of the attacks of individual girls and their opponents was based on the principles of rock-paper-scissors. This means that the key to success is to compose a team whose members will complement each other, and at the same time will be effective in confrontations with specific enemies.
As a true Sensei, between battles we must take care of our subordinates. By having conversations with individual girls (using the so-called MomoTalk) and offering them gifts, we raise their levels, thereby increasing their effectiveness on the battlefield. We enhance their combat potential by improving their equipment and skills. We can also get to know them better by carrying out missions related to them.
It is possible to unlock new students as part of the draws (gacha mechanics). The available girls were differentiated in terms of rarity.
The graphic design of Blue Archive is maintained in a manga style.
