Team Guidelines

Rules for Modding:

1. Abide by lore established by Bethesda
It's often tempting to add your own fantasy elements to what you create. :) However, we want our world to fit seamlessly with what Bethesda Softworks has created. It's very important that nothing contradicts what is mentioned in dialogue or books from the original game. If you have an idea that you just aren't sure about, feel free to post a question on the forum. People will try to help you out.

2. Don't Create Super Items/Artifacts
It's also always tempting to add really powerful items so your creation feels more unique, or so it gives players a reason to visit the creation. In these cases, however: 1) very powerful items can ruin the gaming experience; and 2) it is no longer necessarily the creation that attracts people, but solely the item. If you want to make something memorable, you should focus more on the finer details and not on any single element. This doesn't mean that artifacts or powerful items are always inappropriate however. Maybe it would be appropriate to reward the player at the end of a long quest? In any case, only core members can approve the addition of such items.

3. All Characters *Must* Be Memorable
In TESV, we're going to be focusing more on the quality of content, rather than the quantity. We may have fewer characters as a result. Therefore, we feel that it is only appropriate that a lot more time and effort be put into designing each character who is added to our world. NPC's should be able to talk about their backstory, and should generally have either some chore/quest that they can ask of the player, or some obvious role or job in the world.

4. Don't Mod Beyond the Scope of What has been Approved
Other people may be working on nearby areas, and it would be wrong to take that over. If you want to expand the bounds of the area you are working on (whether it be more indoor or outdoor space), you need to get approval from a Core Member.

5. Don't Change Anything From the Original Game
We want to add content to the existing world while only changing the original game just enough so that our world is accessible. That will make our mod low-risk in the sense that people can download the mod and be confident that it won't break their existing game.

6. Do not add Content from Other Games or other Mods without the Creator's Permission
Not only is this illegal, but it is a complete lack of respect for creativity. This rule also applies to files from previous Elder Scrolls games (TES3, TES4).
If anything is added and is not from this team, we will need to credit the creator. Please inform us of this as soon as you can so we can update the appropriate documents.

7. Finish (and Test) Your Content
It's unreasonable for someone to agree to mod content and then refuse to finish it because one part is "too tough" or "boring". Very few people will want to take over those parts (especially when they are based on someone else's idea), and what we'll be left with is unfinished content. We don't want unfinished content in our mod, so we have the right to refuse to add such content. That doesn't mean we won't help you figure out how to get through those "tough" or "boring" parts though. :) We'd be more than happy to help, we just don't want it to become a pattern of having missing content. This rule also applies to testing - once you finish content, you *need* to test it thoroughly. No reviewer will be obligated to look at submitted content until after it's been tested in-game by its creator.

Rules for the Forum:

1. Respect the Core
The Core is in charge. If a Core Member asks that something be done (or not done) with regards to modded content, then it must happen. Our goal is high quality content, and we are only trying to ensure the success of the mod. In the rare event where the entire Core needs to be consulted, then it works by majority vote within the Core. If a tie occurs sandor has the deciding vote. The Core will speak as a single voice to avoid singling out individuals.

2. If you're Working on Something, Check in Periodically
We know there's such a thing as real life, and people can get busy. :) We respect that but we ask that, if you know you're going to be away, you occasionally post letting us know that you're still interested in the project and carrying on with the content you're working on. It's just a courteous thing to do. Otherwise, we have no way of knowing whether you'll return or not, and we might need to assume that someone else will need to take over your content. We'll also respect if you think it's unfeasible that you can finish a task, so don't worry if you need to drop some or all of your tasks.

3. No discrimination of any kind will be tolerated
Discrimination against any individual or group on the basis of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, and so on will result in an immediate ban from our team. We will not tolerate any behaviour which we deem to be offensive on those grounds.

4. No swearing/cursing/flaming/abusive themes
We respect that people will not always be in agreement on controversial topics. However, there is no justification for resorting to personal insults or swearing on the forum. In fact, that kind of language is harmful to the friendly, open environment we want to create. If an argument is to be made, it should be made to sound intelligent and well thought-out - not an immature outburst. We do not allow pornography and pornographic themes.

5. It's obligatory to activate your user account.

6. No illegal content.
The content will be deleted.

Promoting of illegal activities such as software piracy, phishing, illegal pornography and so on is strictly forbidden, as is providing links to sites that take part in illegal activities.

7. It's not allowed to promote commercial activities, also in your profile.

8. Enforcing the rules.
It's for the admin team to decide if the posted content on the forums does not clearly fall within any of the rules, as posted above.

Not complying to the rules may result in a forum ban/deleting your user account.
